My language learning journey began with my dream of working as a Chef in a Michelin Star kitchen in France. When I first moved to France in pursuit of my dream, my French went as far as the basic “bonjour” and “merci”. I had a hard time communicating basic needs. Today I can read, write, and speak in French at a B1/B2 level and that is honestly because I was consistent. Consistency is key! I focused on grammar and conversational skills I learned through Lingoda courses. From my growth in basic French conversation, I was able to fully immerse myself in the culture and language. French did not come easy to me and honestly, I still have so much more to learn. Like in the kitchen; to grow, you must put in the work and be consistent. Today I live in the south of France, and I work in a Michelin Star kitchen where I speak a lot of French. If you can stay consistent and focused, you too can reach your language goals.

I started learning French with the Lingoda Sprint, which I won, and instead of taking the 50% cashback, I chose to get more classes so I could keep learning. Thanks to those extra hours, I reached a B1/B2 level and won an Erasmus scholarship for six months in Fontainebleau, France. After the Erasmus, I achieved the DALF C1 certificate, consolidating my progress.

I’m now learning German with Lingoda. My goal is to reach a B1/B2 level and then move to Germany to study there for a while. I’m currently at B1 and working to consolidate it. Thanks to my progress, I was able to skip the German 1 exam at university and move directly to German 2.

So far, it’s been an intense journey, but I now feel confident about what comes next. Over time, I learned that changing my mindset made a huge difference: once I stopped seeing languages as an obligation and started enjoying the learning process, my progress became faster and more effective. I’m studying German with the same enthusiasm, and I’m motivated to keep going and enjoy the journey.

In 2026 I hope I can achieve my goals with this new language. Regardless of how my progress will evolve, I want to enjoy my studies and have fun along the way.

When looking for a language course to learn German, I felt very overwhelmed at first, as I didn’t have time to go into a school. When I discovered Lingoda, it solved all of my worries. It is so easy to schedule a class at a time that works perfectly with my schedule and the design of the class was exactly what I needed to fully comprehend what I was learning.

I moved to Germany a year ago to be with my German Fiancé and I could hardly speak the language when I first arrived. Through my Lingoda classes, I learned the fundamentals of German and passed my A1 exam in just a year’s time. I am now well on my way to earning my A2 certificate as well with the knowledge I am gaining through my Lingoda classes. I now feel confident going to the local stores and speaking German with the cashiers and store owners.

The classes are fun and easy to follow. Every teacher I have had has been so kind and encouraging. The classes are designed to encourage speaking in the language you are learning so that you get comfortable with practicing. And the teachers do a great job calmly correcting any grammar mistakes as you practice and learn.

The classes helped me a lot with a sense of community when I first moved to Germany. When I first arrived, I wasn’t able to speak to any of the locals, which made me feel a bit isolated. But through my classes, I was able to speak with the other students who were at the same level as me, building a shared togetherness.

I moved to France when I was 37 because my husband is French and I wanted to get to know his family and friends. Because I’d studied Spanish and Italian, I thought learning French would be a breeze but it’s actually been much harder for me than either of those languages. And because I’ve worked full-time since we’ve been here and we have a young child, I can’t take the classes that are offered at nearby schools and municipal centers. They are often ten or more hours a week or at night. So for years, I’ve been slowly learning French by watching movies, talking to my in-laws, studying textbooks, and working with a tutor. My French is now a solid B1 but I have huge gaps in pronunciation and grammar. When I discovered Lingoda last year, I was so happy. I can finally practice listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar, and reading all at the same time while learning about topics that are very helpful for living in France. I’ve already taken 70 classes and I plan to work my way through the next several levels as I prepare for French citizenship.
